We have had a gaping hole in our hearts since Derry Girls ended.

And while we’re loving seeing the cast branch out and take over the world, we’re missing Lisa McGee’s signature wit.

Thankfully we won’t have to miss it for too long as she has a brand new show in the works.

How to Get to Heaven From Belfast is Lisa’s latest project, which sees her move from her native Derry to Northern Ireland’s capital city!

The eight-part series follows longtime friends Saoirse, Robyn and Dara, who are now in their late 30s. So basically grown-up Derry Girls, right?

We already adore these characters based on the synopsis alone.

“Clever, chaotic TV writer Saoirse, glamorous, stressed-out mother of three Robyn and dependable, inhibited carer Dara have been a tight-knit group since school,” it reads.

“Now in their late 30s, but still as close as ever, these three friends are about to embark on the most thrilling adventure of their lives. When an email arrives, telling them about the death of the estranged fourth member of their childhood gang, Greta, a series of eerie events at her wake set them on a dark, dangerous and hilarious odyssey through Ireland and beyond as each tries to piece together the truth of the past.

“A show about friendship, memory and what happens when life doesn’t turn out quite like you’d expected.”

The series will air on Netflix and it is set to start filming this summer in Northern Ireland. Watch this space for casting news!

Lisa shared the news on Twitter joking: “There is a character from Derry in it before I get banned from the old hometown.”

While no air date has been announced, we couldn’t be more excited for this!
