Dermot Bannon reveals plans for his new home

It will have to be something special for Ireland's best-known architect.

Dermot Bannon is making the move from his Drumcondra house to a new house in the nearby area.

The architect is known for designing people’s homes on Room to Improve, so the pressure is on for his own home.

“[I want] storage. Open plan – but that goes without saying,” he said.

“What I really want to do with this house is loads of different zones. I want to have different ceiling heights, places you can go to chill out, places you can go to be by yourself, spaces for the whole family.

“It’ll be taking open-plan to the next level, a bit like in a nightclub. Have you ever been to a nightclub where there are loads of different areas – like chill out zones and the big dance area?” he told Irish Mirror.

“I want to create loads of different areas within the one house. This is a huge challenge, I’m kind of nervous and excited about it.”

The star’s previous home is on the market for €649,000.

He previously told VIP Magazine how he would design his dream home.

“Because I love cooking, the kitchen would have to be the centre of the home. I think I would actually have one central living space with snugs and pods off it.

“I’d have water – not water features – but water jets and a big bath overlooking the sea. I’m a bit if a hoarder and tend to collect clutter, so I’d want storage compartments for everything. I’d love a studio to paint and draw. I’d need a big fire in the middle of the house that can be seen from everywhere.

“It’s not about rooms for me, I’d like to be able to bring my dinner anywhere because your mood changes and some days you want to open all the doors and let the light in, some days you want to curl up on the couch with a duvet. To me, the home is all about the senses so for me it would the ‘Feeling House’.”

Dermot is already filming the new season of Room to Improve, marking the 12th season of the show.
