Darren Kennedy: “Ireland has come on leaps and bounds but we have to fight for what’s right”

Darren Kennedy is living the dream in LA.

He’s soaking up the sun, getting to have a look into the wardrobes of some of the biggest names in the world (yes Jane Seymour invited him in!) and being one of the most fashionable men both sides of the Atlantic.

We caught up with him when he jetted back to Ireland to spend some time with his family, who he puts above all else. So he jokes his air miles are pretty extensive!

He’s all smiles as we discuss life Stateside, his podcast and his close relationship with his mam, his siblings and his nieces and nephews for our October issue.

But the chat soon turns serious as we talk about the seemingly growing hate movements here in Ireland. We worry that we’ve started going backwards instead of moving forward.

Darren tells us: “I do think this country has come on in leaps and bounds but we have to continue to always fight for what is right. Any sort of brutality or hatred towards anybody needs to be stamped out which is why I feel it’s more important than ever to stand up for what you believe in.”

He continues: “And that’s not to say we all have to be warriors or trailblazers, but if you see something, or you hear something, that doesn’t sit right with you, have the courage to speak up. Because it’s micro aggressions and micro stances that make the difference.”
