Majella O’Donnell confirmed the sad news that her mother, Marion Roche, had passed away this week.
Marion passed away “surrounded by her family” at St Mary’s nursing home in Galway on Monday night.
Now her husband, Daniel O’Donnell has shared his tribute to his mother-in-law.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Majella’s mother Marion,” he wrote.
“Marion died last night surrounded by her family in St Mary’s nursing home in Galway.
“We will be forever grateful to the wonderful staff of St Marys for the great care Marion received since going to live there and especially in her final days. The care and compassion shown to Marion and indeed her family was second to none.”
He went on to say: “Our thanks also to all the staff at Galway University Hospital for their care of Marion during her recent stay there.
“Marion was a beautiful person. Many who met her often referred to her as ‘A Lady’. I was blessed to have her as my mother-in-law.
“She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. May she rest in peace,” he concluded.
Other musicians shared their condolences, with Mairead Carlin writing: “So sorry to hear this Daniel. Sending love and prayers to you all x.”
“Sorry to hear the sad news Daniel. Condolences to Magella and all the family. Lee,” Lee Matthews wrote.
It was actually Marion and her husband, Tom who introduced Daniel to Majella in the bar they owned in Mallorca.
Tom sadly passed away in 2013 on the Spanish island.
Rest in peace, Marion.
