RTE bosses have spoken out following claims that they want Hughie Maughan booted off the show.
Earlier this week, a source close to the former Big Brother star revealed that Hughie believes producers want him gone from the show and are embarrassed of him after his fake tan stunt on last week’s show.
Speaking to the Irish Sun the source said, “Hughie thinks RTE want him eliminated from the competition so they don’t have to be embarrassed by the tan episode anymore. He thinks they are refusing him any advance publicity in the hope he gets voted off.
“Des has been the most heavily promoted dancer on Dancing With The Stars. Cameras and media are banned from the rehearsal rooms but the doors were flung open for Des to do a photoshoot. It’s just not fair.”
However, a spokesperson for the show has said that this is not the case, and it’s not up to producers to decide who stays or goes – it’s up to the public and the judges.
“Hughie has done more press than any of the other contestants this week, everyone in the country know who he is,” a spokesperson told RTÉ Entertainment.
“All we want him to do now is to focus on his dancing so he gets the points to stay in the competition, which we have spoken to him about.
“It is down to the public and the judges who gets to stay on the show and Sunday is going to be very competitive.”
