It’s been reported today that following the huge success of First Dates Ireland, RTE are considering making a celebrity version of the reality show.
A source close to the national broadcaster revealed to The Herald that a celebrity follow-up would be a natural progression for the show.
“This is a format that has been massively popular for RTE and was watched by its key demographic of 18-34-year-olds, so a second show was always going to be on the cards.
“A celebrity version of the Irish show is definitely something that could work for them, provided they get all the right celebrities on board,” they said.
It’s been rumoured that single stars such as Al Porter, Vogue Williams and Roz Purcell may be of interest, because they have worked on RTE programmes in the past.
Just last week the UK version of the matchmaking series launched its celebrity season on Chanel 4. It featured celebs such as The Only Way is Essex star Jess Wright, as well as Eastenders actor Richard Blackwood, and pulled in huge numbers.
With series two of First Dates Ireland on the horizon, and the massive success of series one raking up a viewership of 300,000, we really hope this celebrity version goes ahead!
