Chris O’Dowd has admitted that he’s very particular about what film roles he accepts and refuses. The 37-year-old recently revealed that he has strong beliefs which prevent him from playing certain parts.

Roscommon native Chris is both an atheist and a pacifist which makes it difficult for him to act in religious or excessively violent roles.

Speaking to Maeve Higgins in the America podcast Chris said, “I’m an atheist so I find it hard to do roles where I feel god is triumphant. And I’m a pacifist so I find it hard to do roles where I have to kill people or use guns free and easy.

“The only power an actor has is to say no. So I just don’t do the role if I feel like it’s going to be something where I’m killing people willy nilly.”

The hilarious actor is best known for his roles in The IT Crowd, Bridesmaids and Moone Boy.
