The 2FM presenter was unable to speak when their names were announced as the winners.
His shock hadn’t finished when VIP Magazine caught up with him after the show.
“What you just saw is how much shock I am in,“ he laughs as he chats with us.
“This has been the most incredible experience to go through. From where we started, I was looking back at video of our first rehearsal and I knew nothing. I did one knee spin in a school play in Fourth Year, that’s all the experience I had.“
However, he is quick to tell us that he didn’t just win the show for himself. It was his professional partner, Emily Barker, who he is even more delighted for.
Emily has been on the show for six seasons and made it to the final three times. But now she has lifted that coveted Glitterball trophy.
“I’m so happy we won it for Emily, this was her third final. I’m so happy. There were times where I would tell Emily I’m just not cut out for this.“
“Week on week, it was just picking me up and telling me that I was good enough for this and able for this. If it hadn’t been for Emily I would have probably have been kicked out of the show or quit the show.“
In fact he tells us: “Up until this week, I would be panicking thinking I’ll never be able to do it.“
Despite his delight, Carl confesses that he was going to turn down the opportunity when Dancing with the Stars was first offered.
“I’ve never regretted throwing myself out of my comfort zone. I almost said no to the show,“ he explains.
“But it was my wife, Ais, who was like, ‘Come on. You watch it every year. What an opportunity.’ So I said I’d do it.“
We’re so delighted that Ais convinced him to don his sparkles and show off his dance skills.
