Barry Keoghan became a household name here in Ireland after his breakout role in Calm with Horses.
Since then he’s become an international superstar and a bit of a heartthrob thanks to his role in Marvel’s The Eternals.
Now his Calm with Horses co-star Cosmo Jarvis, who we have adopted as Irish, is following in his footsteps.
The hunky actor is set to have us swooning as he stepped into the role of Frederick Wentworth in Netflix’s upcoming flick, Persuasion.
The period drama is a modern take on Jane Austen’s classic novel starring 50 Shades of Grey star (and Jamie Dornan’s bestie) Dakota Johnson as Anne Elliot.
The original love triangle follows Anne as she decides whether to rekindle her romance with Cosmo’s character Frederick or Crazy Rich Asian’s Henry Goulding.
Henry plays Mr Elliot, a new love interest that seems to be more “appropriate” for highborn Anne to marry.
However, as she is not over her original romance with Frederick Wentworth, will Anne follow her head or her heart?
The official Netflix synopsis reads, “Living with her snobby family on the brink of bankruptcy, Anne Elliot is an unconforming woman with modern sensibilities.”
“When Frederick Wentworth—the dashing one she let get away—crashes back into her life, Anne must choose between putting the past behind her or listening to her heart when it comes to second chances. Adapted from the Jane Austen novel.”
Persuasion was the last novel fully completed by Austen and published six months after her death in 1817.
With properties like 2020’s Emma and, of course, Bridgerton giving Regency dramas a modern twist, it looks like Persuasion will follow in these footsteps.
In the trailer, we see Dakota’s Anne speaking directly into the camera and being a little more cheeky than we would expect!
The film also stars Richard E. Grant, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Mia McKenna-Bruce, Ben Bailey-Smith, Yolanda Kettle, Nia Towle and Izuka Hoyle.
Persuasion debuts on Netflix July 15th
