We sadly said goodbye to Brian Kennedy on Sunday night from Dancing with the Stars.

Despite leaving in week three, Brian couldn’t be happier to take part in the show.

“I’m definitely more proud than disappointed because we put the work in, and this is the way these shows go,” he tells VIP Magazine just moments after he is eliminated from the show.

Brian has had a tough journey with his health over the last decade. He was diagnosed with cancer, underwent chemotherapy, had a quadruple heart bypass, and then caught COVID-19.

On Sunday, he performed a dramatic Paso Doble with the title track from The Phantom of the Opera.

“It ended a little bit more ‘omph’ when it came to the Paso,” Karen told him, but said he brought the energy to the floor.

They received three fours and a three from Brian, meaning they received the lowest score on the night of the 15.

“I know how to lose, I’ve been in the Eurovision! Don’t you worry,” he laughs.

“I put my best foot forward. This is the first time I’ve done anything this physical since having all of those horrible health things. It’s just proven to me I can deal with stress and full-on rehearsal and not having my dinner at an early.”

He went on to say: “We had such fun on this show, we got to dance to incredible music. My outfits were hilarious. Just great camaraderie, you know? Old-fashioned camaraderie and just fun. And I’m amazed I lasted this long!”

He’s not going to be resting on his laurels as he is set to appear in Moonlight as Oscar Wilde.

“I’m going to be playing Oscar Wilde in the upcoming Moonlight show. We open in Hammersmith Odeon in London on March the 29th.”

Dancing with the Stars airs Sundays at 6:30pm on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player
