2FM has had quite the shake-up these past few weeks and former presenter and comedian Bernard O’Shea is sharing his thoughts.
Bernard, who presented Republic of Breakfast, quit the station back in 2019.
Speaking to the Irish Mirror, he opened up about his own experience at the station, adding that radio stars give a lot of time to their shows.
And after five years of co-hosting Republic of Breakfast with Jennifer Zamparelli and Keith Walsh, he became “exhausted”.
“For me, I was doing other things as well. You’re burning the candle at both ends. It’s difficult,” he explained.
Just this last month, 2FM lost Jennifer, The 2 Johnnies and Doireann Garrihy as they all stepped away from their presenting duties.
“It’s a big thing Doireann, Jen and The 2 Johnnies, they give an awful lot of their working life to a radio show.
“It is not just the few hours you are on air and they just moved on for whatever reasons they had,” he added.

“But I’ve seen loads of stations change like that over the years so to me, it was no different than any other station would change.
“I wasn’t surprised because people move on for different reasons. Jen gave five years after Breakfast. That’s ten years in total. That’s a long time to do the day-to-day grind in radio. It takes a good bit out of you.”
As far as where the future of 2FM stands, Bernard think they’ll be okay.
“It’s been there since the 70s. I’m sure it’ll be there for another couple of decades.”
