Ireland is known for its hospitality. We are the land of a hundred thousand welcomes.
And it looks like most of us agree that we’re a generous nation.
New research from Re-turn has revealed that 81 per cent of people believe Ireland is a generous nation.
93 per cent of those involved in the research said that doing good in their daily lives is important to them.

The research also shows that people define “doing good” in broad and relatable ways.
For almost three-quarters (74%), it is about taking small everyday actions that benefit others or the environment. More than half (52%) associate doing good with environmental actions such as recycling, reducing waste and sustainable shopping.
Community support, including helping others and supporting local businesses, is another key way people choose to make a positive difference (42%), while almost four in ten (39%) point to charity and fundraising, such as donating, volunteering or raising money for a cause.
But generosity doesn’t have to be grand gestures.

Nine in 10 people believe that generosity can be shown through small everyday actions.
This mindset also appears to be part of Ireland’s identity, with more than eight in ten (81%), describing Ireland as a generous nation.
And one of those ways can be recycling and using the Re-turn scheme.
In the past month alone, 71 per cent of people say they have recycled to make a positive difference, 69% have returned cans and bottles, 64 per cent have helped friends, neighbours or family, while almost six in ten, 59 per cent, say they have reduced their waste.
Oh and you can donate to charity easily by just recycling your bottles and cans.

Orange Bins will be popping up for eventgoers on their journeys, whether they are heading to a stadium or festival to see their favourite music act or to see who will lift the Sam Maguire. Re-turn is making it easy for people to support good causes while enjoying Ireland’s biggest concerts, festivals and sporting occasions, as well as in workplaces and community spaces beyond the summer.
Every eligible can and bottle donated through an Orange Bin contributes to Re-turn for Children, a unique initiative that enables people to donate the value of their drinks containers to six of Ireland’s leading children’s charities through the Deposit Return Scheme: Barnardos, Barretstown, Childline by ISPCC, Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation, LauraLynn Ireland’s Children’s Hospice and Make-A-Wish Ireland.
Since launching in 2024, Re-turn for Children has raised €515,000 through donations.
Truly incredible!
