Ruth Negga revealed as favourite for Best Actress Oscar

The 2017 Oscars are just around the corner so, tips for the nominees have already begun surfacing and our very own Ruth Negga has been revealed as a favourite to be nominated for Best Actress.

The former Love/Hate actress has appeared in many renowned films including; 12 Years a Slave, Capital Letters and Breakfast on Pluto -but it’s her most recent leading role in historical drama, Loving that has everyone speculating an Oscar Nomination for the beauty.

Loving tells the story of an interracial couple who are sentenced to prison in Virginia in 1958 for getting married -which is prohibited under Virginian law. Ruth plays the leading role of Mildred, a determined, strong character who is intent on challenging this law. The Irish actress has been hailed by critics for her outstanding performance after the movie’s premiere at Cannes Film Festival and many have tipped her for an Oscar nomination.

The Hollywood Reporter’s resident film buff, Scott Feinberg recently shared his predictions for Oscar nominees and he picked Ruth as a front runner for Best Actress. He has put her up against Emma Stone (La La Land), Annette Bening (20th Century Women), Viola Davis (Fences) and Meryl Streep (Florence Foster Jenkins).

Although she’s got some tough competition we’ve no doubt Ruth is in with a chance to bag an Oscar for her breathtaking performance in Loving.

Unfortunately, it won’t be released in Ireland until 3rd February 2017 -but as you can see it’ll definitely be worth the wait!
