While the pronunciation of Saoirse has never really been an issue for us Irish, our friends across the pond sadly haven’t been able to pick it up as easily.
Saoirse Ronan’s no stranger to having her name mispronounced by people in America, however bearing in the mind that the Golden Globes are taking place this weekend, Ellen DeGeneres has taken it upon herself to make sure everyone knows how to say it right.
The hilarious host made the Irish actress a sandwich board, which says, “Hello, my name is sur-sha,” with a specially designated area for sweets and champagne.
Ellen isn’t the only person who has been trying to teach Americans how to pronounce her name, as Ryan Gosling has also given it a shot.
The actor tried to help the people of the US, by explaining, “It’s not Say-or-see, or Seer-say or Sorcery, but it probably should be. It’s Saoirse, like inertia.”
