Eager onlookers of the IFTAs were expecting to see A-list stars such as Colin Farrell, Jamie Dornan and Jack Reynor walking the red carpet last night – but were left sorely disappointed as the top actors decided to shun the annual ceremony.
And now director Jim Sheridan, who won a Lifetime Achievement award at the glitzy bash in Dublin’s Mansion House, has slammed the stars who turned their noses up at the awards.
Out of the biggest names that were confirmed to attend, also including Michael Fassbender and Domhnall Gleeson, it was only Lord of the Rings star Sean Bean that brought some global star-quality to Ireland’s version of the Oscars.
Those who did attend were a culmination of Love/Hate actors, TV3 stars, presenter Amanda Byram and actress Amy Huberman, among others.
After accepting his gong, Sheridan said he was bitterly disappointed at the lackluster guestlist.
“I do think it is a mistake”, he told Evoke.ie. “They should be here. Just because the media jumps on you don’t runt to the hills. There is a duty to support the industry.
“I don’t know who exactly is here and isn’t but you know, people should support the industry.”
The big winners on the night were Love/Hate, Frank and Patrick’s Day.
