Bernard O’Shea has opened up about the plans for a Bridget and Eamon movie.
The popular comedy show is now in its fourth season and is showing no signs of stopping, which is why Bernard feels it’s the perfect time to make a film.
Bernard and Jennifer Zamparelli play the 80s couple, as well as working together on Breakfast Republic with Keith Duffy, so the pair is kept busy.
“We’ve had huge interest from a few different sources, the issue is trying to find time to make it,” he explained.
“We have a very strong idea and we want to work on the script and instead of just doing a longer extended episode of the series, we want to do a movie where it creates the world of Bridget and Eamon and lets people who aren’t from Ireland or who have never seen the movie get it.”
The series, which focuses on ‘traditional’ Irish couple in the 80s, has proven popular outside of Ireland too.
“We were on Amazon Prime and Zulu in the US and UK TV Gold in Britain and a channel in Australia.”
Bernard told The Mirror that they even get recognised while they are on their holidays.
“The oddest one was when Jen was in New York recently and this guy said to her’ I’ve seen you in this programme.’
“We were in Heathrow not so long ago and someone cornered me saying they liked the show and it was the oddest thing.
“Or you see Americans in Iowa making comments about the show and it’s odd.”
The Dancing with the Stars contestant revealed that the fourth season is full of brilliant guest appearances.
“We’ve Deirdre O’Kane back and the wonderful Mary Murray from Love/Hate too.
“We also have the real Pope hopefully, but it might not be true.
“We’ve always had interesting cameos and Jason Byrne is back this year and Dermot Whelan.”
