Viewers praise Dara Ó Briain after sharing search for birthmother on The Tommy Tiernan Show

RTÉ One

Comedian Dara Ó Briain got candid on The Tommy Tiernan Show, impressing the audience and viewers at home.

The Bray native opened up about his adoption story. In 2021 Dara revealed he had begun searching for his birthmother, being inspired to do so by the film, Philomena.

Sharing more of his story on last night’s episode, the 51-year-old confessed he didn’t think the chat would go in that direction, but still opened up about the search for his birthmother.

“The story is about the search to find out information about yourself and that’s what the story comes down to.”

“The story is probably more about how badly Ireland wanted to cover up these things and so therefore the hoops that people who were adopted had to jump through just to find out their own basic information,” he began.

Sharing some of the challenges in his search, Dara explained how, “illegal to receive to get your own birth cert I have in this room held up the documents before.”

The former Mock Of The Week host also revealed what drove him to look for his bio mother.

Confessing: “I felt like I had an obligation to let this person know that I was okay.”

“That seems like the bare minimum that seems like the thing they should know.”

Viewers were in awe of Dara’s honesty, and took to social media expressing how impressed they were.
