Vicky Phelan reveals she needs to “see results soon” to continue with US clinical drug trial

Vicky Phelan has shared that in order for her to continue with her drug trial treatment in the US she will need to “see results soon.”

The cervical check campaigner has been in the US for the past six months as she takes part in a clinical drug trial which she hopes will prolong her life.

Vicky was chatting about this on Instagram Live with SocialMind Ireland when she said; “The problem with this is I’m on a clinical trial and it’s costing the trial people to have me on their trial. So they will want to see results soon in order to keep me on the trial.”

Continuing, Vicky shared that although she hasn’t had dramatic results so far, she will be travelling back to the US to continue;  “I’ve had very, very limited results to date.”

Although, she did also share that she hasn’t been on the full dose for very long, so she is hoping to see better results soon; “I wasn’t on the full dose of treatment until May. So I think it will take another few doses before it can start kind of hopefully working a bit better, but at the same time, you never know.”

The 47-year-old is currently in Ireland visiting her friends and family, and she shared how fast her time here has gone already; “I’ve been there for six months and I’m home literally just for a month and I’ll be going back again in two weeks time. My God, the time’s flying already.”

Although the mother-of-two initially told family and friends she would only be going for a period of six months, she will actually be there for a year.

Revealing recently why she never told them it would be a year she said; “I lied for myself as well as everyone else. I think saying goodbye to everyone for 12 months in January would have been to hard, I wouldn’t have been able to do it.”

“I decided I’d tell everyone I was only coming for six months and then when I got here, break the news.”

We are so happy to see Vicky back on Irish soil and are wishing her the best of luck with the rest of her treatment.
