Wonderful news for Vicky Phelan’s family and friends this week, as the cervical check campaigner returned home to Ireland.

Sharing the happy news to social media she said; “HOME…At last! I arrived home to Ireland in the early hours of this morning.”

As well as thanking the Aer Lingus staff for looking after her so well, she also revealed that Dublin Airport set up an area where she could reunite with her family; “I would also like to thank the amazing staff at Platinum Services at @dublinairport especially Damien and Michelle who really pulled out all the stops for me and my family this morning with welcome home banners and balloons.”

“The use of a private suite allowed me to have time and privacy to reunite with my family after 6 months of not seeing them,” she added.

Continuing, the mother-of-two shared her thanks to all her followers who have kept her company and shared encouragement over the last six months which have surely been so hard.

She said; “Finally, I would again like to thank all of YOU for keeping me going over the last few weeks when coming home seemed so far away at times.”

“I will post sporadically until I can (hopefully) move around more freely after my period of quarantine at home in Doonbeg when I will get out and about again.”

Vicki flew to the US at the start of the year to partake in a new clinical cancer trial in a bid to shrink her tumours and prolong her life. Although she initially told family and friends she would only be going for a period of six months, she will actually be there for a year.

Revealing recently why she never told them it would be a year she said; “I lied for myself as well as everyone else. I think saying goodbye to everyone for 12 months in January would have been to hard, I wouldn’t have been able to do it.”

“I decided I’d tell everyone I was only coming for six months and then when I got here, break the news.”

We are so happy to see Vicky back on Irish soil!
