Yvonne Tiernan has revealed that she’s about to host a brand new series which will be shown exclusively on the RTE Player – something that’s never been done before by the station.

The online show called The Couch will be an interview based series aimed at specifically at women, another first of it’s kind.

Speaking to The Sun, Yvonne said, “I think it will really appeal to women with children who will be able to sit down in their own time with a cup of tea and watch these interviews.”

The six-part show will feature interviews with the likes of Jo Malone, Sharon Horgan, Ceclia Holman Lee and Maia Dunphy.

“I’m someone who is in some ways confident and in other ways very nervous. I think we all have these contradictions in us. For me, sitting on a couch chatting with other women is when I’m at my most comfortable. My fear was putting myself out there,” she said.

Yvonne has plenty of experience in the showbiz industry as she managed her husband and top comedian, Tommy Tiernan, for over a decade – so putting herself out there isn’t something entirely new for her. And it was indirectly through Tommy how this gig came about for the mum of three in the first place.

She met with the Head of Comedy, Eddie Doyle, to discuss projects for Tommy but ended up landing herself a brand new job.

Yvonne said, “We got talking about was or wasn’t on TV and I said there’s nothing that’s not in a studio and that is female-focused.”

“The idea stayed in my head after that. I thought of The Conversation – a US TV show with Amanda de Cadenet where she interviews notable women – and I thought that something like that would really suit me.”

She continued, “It feels like something new. The RTE Player has never made anything before. Aoife Byrne, RTE Digital Director of Content and Products, saw it and she really wanted this to be her baby.”

The first episode will go online tomorrow – we can’t wait to watch this.
