This Irish actress missed out on a cameo in the Barbie movie

While we already have Nicola Coughlan representing the Irish in the highly anticipated Barbie movie, it has now been revealed that writer-director, Greta Gerwig also had plans for another famous Irish face to make an appearance.

The face being Saoirse Ronan of course!

Yes, in a recent interview with the website CinemaBlend, Greta shared how she had hoped Saoirse who worked with her on films such as Lady Bird and Little Women would be able to make a cameo, however sadly due to scheduling conflicts it never happened.

“Well, it was always going to have to be a sort of smaller thing because she was actually producing at the time, which I am so proud of her for,” Greta said of having to scrap Saoirse’s cameo.

Adding: “And of course, it’s brilliant.”

“But it was going to be a specialty cameo.”

Greta then mentioned how she wanted to get Timothée Chalamet involved too, before realising that he also couldn’t do it.

“Both of them couldn’t do it and I was so annoyed. But I love them so much.

“It felt like doing something without my children. I mean, I’m not their mom, but I sort of feel like their mom.”

Saoirse was filming and producing The Outrun at the same time Barbie was filming, resulting in her being unable to fit a cameo into her schedule.

Adapted from the 2016 memoir by Scottish journalist and author Amy Liptrot, it tells the story of a woman who returns home to the remote Orkney Islands off the coast of Scotland after rehab for alcohol addiction.

As exciting as The Outrun sounds, we must admit we’re a little bit gutted that Saoirse won’t be popping up on our screens in the Barbie movie!
