Saoirse Ronan opens up about her friendship with Paul Mescal

Irish supporting the Irish – we love to see it!

Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal have known each other for quite some time now but it wasn’t until they started filming their new film Foe, that really saw their friendship blossom.

That’s right, the pair star opposite each other in the new dystopian sci-fi thriller, in which they will play a married couple.

The movie is set in a dystopian future in which the couple, called Hen and Junior live in a rural area as farmers on a decaying planet. However, this all changes when Junior is randomly selected to travel and live on an experimental space station.

Opening up about her and Paul’s friendship in a recent interview with Document, Saoirse said: “We did a film together at the beginning of last year in Australia, called Foe.

“We knew each other sort of in passing before, just through friends.

“We’ve become very, very close since making the film. We’re genuine friends; we’re not Hollywood friends,” she added.

Saoirse also touched on what it was like growing up in Ireland.

Although the actress is currently situated in London, Saoirse lived the early years of her life in New York before moving home to Ireland, where both her parents were from.

“I think the life that I would have had in New York—I’m sure it would have been fine—but it’s nothing compared to growing up in the countryside in Ireland,” she shared.

“And having space and quiet and fresh air and being around animals.

“That is where I identify with being home.”
