Staff Writer Anja is loving…Mayo’s All-Ireland win
As a proud Mayo woman, this week has been a very special one. After 75 long years of waiting, watching the Mayo senior football team finally lift the Sam Maguire has been something I’ll never forget.
Seeing the entire country rally behind Mayo, my social media filled with emotional fan edits and long-awaited celebrations, and watching supporters of every generation finally witness the county’s greatest day has been incredibly moving.
The scenes at the homecoming – which, of course, I had to make the trip home for – were just as unforgettable, with thousands lining the streets to welcome the team back and celebrate a moment that means so much to so many.
It’s been a week full of pride, joy and happy tears, and one I don’t think I’ll ever get over.
Long may the celebrations continue!
