Sinead Kennedy bids farewell to RTE’s Today Show as she begins maternity leave

Sinead Kennedy has bid an emotional goodbye to RTE’s Today Show as she takes a step back for a few months to enjoy precious time with her newborn child.

She’s expecting her first baby with husband Conor Kirwan later this month, and finished up on the show this week to begin her maternity leave.

Before hanging up her boots, Sinead took a moment to thank everyone she works with – particularly her co-host Daithi O’Se – admitting she’ll miss them all dearly.

“What a really great few months it’s been. I’ve had a ball working alongside Daithi,” she said.

“We literally laughed our way through each day. It was a pure joy to work with you Mr, I honestly loved every minute.

“I’ll be looking forward to getting back on air with you in a few months time for more of the same madness!”

She continued, “There are so many wonderful people behind the scenes who make RTE Today happen day in, day out.

“I won’t name them all individually as I’d be here all day but thanks a mill for all you do, you keep the content coming and keep the show on the road, you’re true pros. RTÉ Cork is a little gem because of you all.”

While Sinead is off on maternity leave, Blathnaid Treacy is set to step in and cover her gig.

The broadcaster is no stranger to the show, already making regular appearances for entertainment and fashion news, and will join Daithi O’Se each Monday and Tuesday, while Maura Derrane continues to host every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be joining the show. It’s such a great programme, a staple of Irish television for so many years with Maura, Dáithí and Sinéad,” she beamed.

“I want to wish my good friend Sinéad the very best of luck on her maternity leave. She’s left behind some stylish shoes to fill.”

Blathnaid will begin on March 15th. You can catch the show at 3.30pm on RTE One every afternoon.
