Sharon Horgan has opened up about her divorce and why she regrets not doing it sooner.
The Irish actor tied the knot with her ex-husband, Jeremy Rainbird in 2005 and had two daughters before separating in 2019.
Chatting on the How To Fail podcast with Elizabeth Day, the 54-year-old acknowledged that their separation had been inevitable and had been coming for quite a while.
“I feel like weirdly it was connected to confidence,” she admitted.
“We got together, we had a baby, and we made it work for a long time, and we had another baby, and he was involved in the business but there came a point where it was so clear that it wasn’t right for either of us.”
Having grown up a Catholic, Sharon was unsure whether her upbringing influenced her mindset, confessing that divorce was never something she considered.
“It’s an odd one because, I’ve never been happier but I’m angry at myself, not for the failure of the marriage but for not figuring it out earlier,” she continued.
“It’s so destructive I think, and I mean you get one life and that’s an awful lot of time to spend on something that’s not working.”
Despite the challenges of the process, Sharon noted that ending her marriage has had a positive impact on her life.
“It’s a weird one because, yes, it failed but it’s had such a positive impact on my life,” she told the podcast.
“I think the stuff that’s less fun is the business of divorce. It’s debilitating, time-consuming, money-draining it’s not fun for anyone.”
Since her divorce, Sharon has opened up about being in a new relationship, however, his identity is currently being kept under wraps.
