Ireland’s own Saoirse Ronan won her first award of the season at the AACTA’s last night.
Her role in Little Women won Best Lead Actress at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts yesterday.

When accepting her award Saoirse referenced many other Australian actors she has had the chance to work with over her career so far;
“I’ve worked with so many Australians since I was about 10 with Cate Blanchett, and Margot and Guy Pearce, Gillian Armstrong, and all these amazing people so I kind of feel like I’ve grown up with Aussies just sort of showing me the way as I’ve grown up as an actor.”

The film which has been in cinemas since December 26th has already been met with much critical acclaim, especially Ronan’s performance as headstrong and independent Jo Marsh.
Twenty-five year old Ronan has also been nominated for Best Actress at the Golden Globes. Nominations for this year’s Oscars will not be released until January 7th, but we expect Saoirse will be on the top of that list too.
