Ruth Scott recently wed her long term boyfriend Rob Morgan in a ceremony in Co.Clare.
The pair tied the knot in Bunratty Castle Hotel last July.
The radio show host has now explained that she won’t be changing her surname to her husband’s.
“I’m not bothering to change my name, so we don’t have all that nasty paperwork to tackle. I couldn’t be bothered, it’s my name,” she told Independent.ie.
Other than it being a lot of effort to change, a determining factor for Ruth was that she is well known by her own name already.
“I have great association professionally with my name. When you consider the JNLR listenership research is done by name, it’s important to keep that.
She also added that her husband, who is the son of Father Ted’s Dermot Morgan already has a family member with that name.
“Rob has a cousin called Ruth, so we already have one Ruth Morgan, we don’t need another one.
In the past it would have been more tradition for women to take their husband’s name but now, more and more women are opting to keep their own. This is also something Ruth said she noticed.
“Loads of people I know who have got married, plenty, didn’t bother changing their names,” she said.
