RTE announce replacement for Ryle Nugent as Head of Sport

It was revealed back in February that Nugent was leaving

RTE has today announced a replacement for Ryle Nugent, who is currently Head of Sport.

The sports broadcaster had been working with RTE for 24 years but it was announced in February that we was leaving the position.

Now, Declan McBennett has been appointed by RTÉ for the role.

Declan, who currently holds the position of Managing Editor of Live and Continuous News, has worked across RTÉ News and RTÉ Sport including positions as Editor of RTÉ News Now, RTÉ News Online and RTÉ News and Current Affairs.

Speaking about his appointment, McBennett said, “I very much look forward to working with the RTÉ Sports team and with all of the sporting organisations RTÉ partners with to ensure that quality coverage of our national teams and national games are delivered to the Irish audience.

“I’m delighted to be taking up the role as we head into a fantastic summer of sport with the GAA Championships, the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the European Championships 2018.”

Ryle gave his own seal of approval by sharing the news on Twitter adding: “Sincere congrats to 

 Declan will succeed Ryle Nugent when he finished up in June.
