Paul Mescal got his break back in Normal People and he is really living up to that title.
The actor, who we think is a superstar, has confessed that he isn’t interested in fame.
And he is hopeful that his role in the Gladiator sequel doesn’t catapult him into the upper echelon.
He’s no interest in any of that “boring” stuff – his words, not ours!
Speaking to The Sunday Times, conversation soon turned to the Ridley Scott blockbuster which is due to come out later this year.
“I don’t know what the difference will be. Maybe that’s naïve? Is it just that more people will stop you in the street?” he confessed.
“I’d get profoundly depressed if that’s so and hope it isn’t true. I’ll have an answer next year, but if it impacts my life in that way, I’ll be in a bad spot.”
He joked if that was the case that he would have to “move on and do an obtuse play nobody wants to see”.
The Maynooth man went on to say that he has no interest in fame as it would turn him into a “boring person”.
“Then you’d see yourself as somehow different and I don’t want to do that. I’d just get too f***ing bored.
“I don’t want to close myself off to going out and meeting someone in a bar, or getting drunk at a party. That would turn me into a boring human.
“It would be dangerous to start wrapping yourself in cotton wool and not be out in the world, through fear.”
Well we hope that Paul still gets to have his fun out in the world!
