Gay Byrne could be set to return to the airwaves, despite his on-going battle with prostate cancer.
The 84-year-old stepped away from Lyric FM in 2016 after his initial diagnosis, but colleague and friend Pat Kenny reveals it’s very likely he’ll return in the near future.
Speaking to the Irish Daily Star: “We had coffee a few weeks ago. He was in very good form. He’s still challenged a bit. He had surgery on his hips.
“But he was in great form. We had a chat about not just old times but we had a chat about what is going on in current times.

“I’m looking forward to having him back. I think he will return. I’m not sure he will do as long a season on Lyric FM as he was doing but I’m sure he will be doing something.”
Gay previously opened up about his diagnosis, revealing that while he tries his best to stay strong and keep going, it can be incredibly tough at times.
“What choice have I got? You either fight, or you lie down and die.
“Believe me, there are some days when you want to lie down and die, every cancer sufferer in the country will tell you that.
“But you do the best you can — and follow the treatment,” he told the Irish Sun.
