Panti Bliss has just landed her own tv show, after selling the rights to her book Woman In The Making to an American production company.
Rory O’Neill, aka Panti, is in the process of writing a screenplay with the company at the moment, and it will be set in a gay bar resembling her own Panti Bar on Dublin’s Capel Street. She will play herself in the comedy drama but it will not be strictly based on her book.
Speaking on The Ray D’Arcy Show on Radio1 Rory said, “It is fictional-ish. Panti’s going to be in it…and I’ll draw on my vast back catalogue of embarrassing stories.
“The TV series is not actually about the book but they are locking all that stuff off so that no one else can use it.”
The Queen of Ireland also revealed to Ray that two companies were interested in her memoir, and she only signed off on the deal in the last number of weeks, it’s very new.
“It’s all pretty fresh. We actually only really signed off on it very recently although we’ve been having meetings since last winter, but now we’re getting properly cracking on it.
“It’s exciting. No one has ever shown any interest in the book, and then two big international production companies came along at the same time, both American, and I was like ‘Is this an actual bidding war?’ And I just went with the one that I felt got me better.
“They are a big impressive company they have the money to say ‘let’s just go and do it.’ It’s a new thing for me to be writing for TV. It’s exciting,” she said.
We can’t wait to see it!
