Tommy Tiernan has caused outrage in Co. Mayo today after being spotted walking around a graveyard dressed as a priest and carrying a coffin.
The sketch, which was being filmed as past of RTE comedy show The Hardy Bucks, has caused huge offence and upset with locals, with many people complaining about the incident to Parish Priest, Fr Padraig Costello.
The clip was initially given clearance by Mayo County Council, however they have since issued an apology.
“We regret any upset felt by the local community and acknowledge the sensitivities around this type of activity, particularly in a graveyard setting,” Marie Crowley, Head of Ballina Municipal District, told The Irish Independent.
“The County Council did give permission for the filming subject to certain conditions all of which were met by the production company or their agents.”
Martin Maloney, who plays Eddie Durkan in The Hardy Bucks series also apologised for any offence the sketch may have caused.
“The last thing we wanted to do was upset people,” he said. “Our show is all about making people laugh. It would never be out intention to deliberately upset anyone. It’s unfortunate that this happened.”
