Northern Irish author Anna Burns win Man Booker Prize

Anna Burns has become the first Northern Irish author to win the Man Booker Prize.

The Belfast native was presented with the award last night in London for her fiction novel, Milkman.

The story surrounds a young woman who was sexually harassed by a much older man, and delves into the repercussions which follow.

Following Anna’s win, president Michael D. Higgins sent his well-wishes to the author, saying; “May I congratulate Anna Burns on becoming the first Northern Irish author to win the Man Booker Prize for fiction, for her novel Milkman.”

Dublin born Anne Enright won was the award in 2007 for her novel, The Gathering.
