It’s never been any secret that Miley Cyrus had a feud with the late Sinéad O’Connor.

However, now in an unlikely turn of events, Miley has dedicated the release of her new song to the Irish singer.

So what exactly happened between the two?

It all began ten years ago after Miley received an open letter from Sinéad when she noticed similarities between their Wrecking Ball and Nothing Compares 2 U music videos.

While Sinéad claimed the message was supposedly from a good place, fans of the American singer couldn’t help but disagree with some of the comments made towards Miley.

“‘I am extremely concerned for you that those around you have led you to believe, or encouraged you in your own belief, that it is in any way ‘cool’ to be naked and licking sledgehammers in your videos,” read part of the letter.

‘It is in fact the case that you will obscure your talent by allowing yourself to be pimped, whether it’s the music business or yourself doing the pimping.

“The message you keep sending is that it’s somehow cool to be prostituted,” the letter continued.

At the time, Miley responded to the letter by sharing tweets from Sinéad trying to find a mental health treatment facility, however, now the singer admits that she didn’t fully understand the struggles that the singer was facing at the time.

Speaking on her ABC show Endless Summer Vacation Miley admitted: “I had no idea about the fragile mental state that she was in, and I was also only 20 years old so I could really only wrap my head around mental illness only so much.

“‘I think I had just been judged for so long on my own choices that I was just exhausted. And I was in this place where I finally was making my own choices and my own decisions.

“And to have that taken away from me deeply upset me.

“‘God bless Sinéad O’Connor for real, in all seriousness,” Miley added.

Finally, when it came to performing her new song, Wonder Woman, a message flashed across the screen that read “Dedicated to Sinéad O’Connor”.
