Michael Conlan has plenty of things to be proud of from his incredible career as a professional boxer to his gold Olympic medal.
However, the Belfast man holds one thing above all of that – his children.
When VIP Magazine caught up with the boxer, he was joined by his wife Shauna and their two children Luisne (meaning ‘Little Flame’ As Gaeilge) and Michael Jr.
“For this sport, you have to be very selfish,” Michael tells us. “I’m away three-quarters of the year, and that’s very, very hard on Shauna and my kids.”
However, Michael assures us that he is doing all of this for his family.
“I always remember who I’m doing it for, it’s for them three, and for our future. My kids are my biggest achievements at the end of the day.“
He is all praise for his wife Shauna, who he met on a night out a decade ago in 2012.
“I don’t think I’d be where I am if it wasn’t for Shauna,“ he confesses.
“I wonder what my lifestyle would be like if it wasn’t for her; would I be out partying, would I be as disciplined?
“I don’t really drink or go out, because when I’m not in training I’m with Shauna and the kids, so I can’t be off gallivanting and getting up to no good! I have more focus on the important things in life because of her.“
