Mary Kennedy opens up about finally meeting her granddaughter after lockdown restrictions

Like many other people, Mary Kennedy missed out on meeting her granddaughter when she was first born due to lockdown restrictions. Now, Mary is opening up about the moment when she first met her ‘gorgeous’ granddaughter.

Mary’s daughter Eva, who is already a mother to her son Paddy, gave birth to her daughter Holly in November and due to restrictions, Mary hadn’t been able to see her until now.

Speaking on The Six O’Clock Show with Muireann O’Connell and Martin King, she shared the moment, and called her granddaughter “gorgeous”.

“Little Holly, she was born at the end of November in lockdown I didn’t get to see her [until] now – she’s just gorgeous.

“I think because she was born the pandemic she’s just so placid and happy and her brother is running rings around her and she’s sitting on her mat playing and smiling.”

Continuing, Mary shared: “I do go down and so does other people. It’s hard when you’re looking after two little ones and there’s not much open at the moment and it’s nice to have the company.”

“In fact, I’m going down there with Lucy [Mary’s daughter] for the August bank holiday because mammy and daddy are going away for the weekend.”

Mary also revealed that she has recently received her two vaccine jabs but she admitted that she was quite nervous about it, as she has a “phobia” of injections.

She explained: “I was but I have a phobia about injections, I really do, so that didn’t help. I was a wuss so apologies to everybody in City West where I got them because I was really shaking.

“I think it actually goes back to a very matter of fact public health nurse back a long time ago when I was going for shots.”

Continuing, Mary shared, “She was not a nice person. I can still remember exactly what she looked like and her demeanour. I’m very pleased to be vaccinated and it seems to be happening very quickly now for a lot of people.”
