National treasure, Marty Morrissey is set to release his autobiography later this year. He already holds a special place with the Irish nation, with his instantly recognisable voice on the radio, and his enthusiastic coverage of the GAA.

It’s Marty begins with his early life in the Bronx in New York to his upbringing in West Clare. Some may not know that Marty began his career as a teacher as well as coaching school and underage sides in the GAA. He’s such a fixture on All Ireland Final day that it’s hard to imagine him doing anything else!

The book will also cover how he switched tack and began his hugely successful career in broadcasting and covering the GAA.  Interestingly, he shares that he was told his audition tape for RTÉ Sport was “too thin, too high-pitched.” Despite this he is now a staple in the Irish sporting world and is much-loved around the country.

Speaking about the book Marty said; “Guess what? I’ve written a book! Can you believe it? I can’t! I never thought I’d do this. I was either too lazy, too busy or I thought nobody would be interested. But I hope you are.”

Like many others Marty used the downtime in lockdown to write;  “I started with a blank screen on my laptop in January, which was intimidating, and finished it over the summer. Now comes the worrying part: will anybody read this?”

“I hope you will, that it will give you a good few laughs and you will enjoy coming with me from New York to West Clare to Croke Park to Dancing with the Stars,” he added.

It’s Marty by Marty Morrissey is out on the 21st of October 2021.
