Mark Cagney has opened up about the heartbreaking loss of his first wife, almost three decades ago.
Ann, who he had been with for 11 years, passed away in 1991 after suffering a brain haemorrhage in town.
“She was in Brown Thomas having lunch with a friend and she was taken to the hospital,” he recalled.
Soon after her death, Mark, who was presenting a show on 98fm, returned to work but quickly learned he was rushing into things.

Speaking on Newstalk, he said, “I went mad, I went mad. I came back to work for about three weeks and I just couldn’t.
“I remember Peggy O’Brien, she was the mother of the 98FM, and she came in and asked if I was alright. I went ‘No Peggy, I am not.’
“I finished the programme as normal. I kept it together and I went into the programme director straight afterwards and said that I couldn’t do it anymore.”
Mark found love again with Audrey O’Brien, and the pair share four children.
