Following intense criticism of his Saturday night chat show, Mairead Ronan has decided to defend her former colleague Ray D’Arcy.
Ray was heavily criticised for his recent interview with Making a Murderer lawyer Dean Strang, but Mairead, who worked with the host on Today FM for 11 years, says the online abuse was over the top.
“I’ve watched Making a Murderer, and the interview, and I thought the slack he got for it was ridiculous, I really did,” she told the Herald. “It’s like he couldn’t please anyone doing that interview.”
She continued: “It’s a ten-hour documentary that only a tiny proportion of people have seen. Not everyone has Netflix, so I thought it was very unfair.
“My sister watched the interview and she thought it was fine. She got something from it and she hasn’t watched one episode.”
Her comments come after Dean himself said he enjoyed the chat with the RTE star, despite the huge number of critics.
“His interview far exceeds in depth and thoughtfulness of almost all of the national US media outlets, he insisted. “It was more serious and lengthy than most of those in which I have participated here.”
