Louise Duffy is delighted to return to the airwaves after almost four years away from the studio.
She previously hosted a nightly music show on Today FM but was dropped as part of a schedule shake-up for the station back in 2019.
She is now stepping into Ronan Collin’s RTE Radio 1 slot after he announced his decision to leave the station after 40 -years.
While she has been dabbling in different roles since leaving Today FM, radio has always been her passion.
“It is just a pleasure to have started and for this to now be my job, to be doing something that I truly enjoy so much,” she told The RTÉ Guide.
“I have tried other things, I have worked in other areas, and I feel truly lucky to have landed back on the thing I want to do most, which is to play music, discover new music and explore the genres and the eras all put together in one hour.
“I feel so lucky that that is my job now.”
RTE Radio 1 announced Louise would be replacing Ronan Collins back in December.
Ronan hasn’t retired, however, as he will still host on Radio 1 every Bank Holiday Monday as well as taking some gigs on RTE Gold.
When VIP Magazine caught up with Louise over the summer she teased her return to the airwaves.
“There’s always something coming up! Maybe a little bit of radio coming up hopefully,” she told us at the time.
“The lure of live radio is kind of hard to get out of your system. It certainly hasn’t left mine.”
“It’s something I want to be a part of again. It’s really exciting, the light is on and you’re talking to however many people. There is such a range of listeners in Irish radio and you have to make sure you appeal to all of them. It’s a different challenge.”
