Laura Whitmore announces decision to leave Love Island

Laura Whitmore has lots on her plate, between her presenting gigs, her acting and her podcast.

However, it came as a massive shock when she announced that she would be stepping down as host of Love Island.

She initially took over the reins in 2020 for the first-ever winter season of the show when Caroline Flack departed.

After helming three massive seasons, Laura confirmed that she would not be returning in the new year.

Sharing a screenshot from the series, she wrote: “Some news! I won’t be hosting the next series of Love Island.

“There are certain elements of the show I’ve found very difficult that cannot be changed some due to the format, including the flying back and forth to South Africa along with my new conflicting projects.

“I wish it was still possible but know you’ll be in safe hands. I was only planning to fill in for Caroline for a series and it turned into 3 series.”

She concluded: “I hope I did you proud Caroline.”

She was inundated with messages of support from her pals, including Maura Higgins who wrote: “You will be missed.”

Muireann O’Connell added: “Well done on everything, Laura! Hope rehearsals for the West End are going brilliantly!”

“You were honestly the best, killed it every time,” Dami Hope commented.

ITV released their own statement following the news, wishing Laura all the best in her upcoming projects.
