Kathryn Thomas has stepped into her new role, hosting her breakfast show on Q102 from 7am to 10am at the beginning of the year.

While we’re loving hearing her wake us up each morning, she admits that it wasn’t an easy choice for her to make.

She admitted that she didn’t want to miss “magic” time with her daughters, six-year-old Ellie and three-year-old Grace.

However, she knew that this was an incredible opportunity she couldn’t pass on.

Speaking to Life Magazine, she said: “As women, or as mums, there’s a time in life when we tend to retreat back or say no to opportunities where we should say yes.

“I think we don’t hear a lot about that. I think we hear about the importance of saying no and putting up boundaries and protecting ourselves against burnout, but we can get into the habit of saying no too much, and not taking opportunities.

“When this opportunity came up, it took me a long time to get my head around it. The biggest thing for me was like ‘We live in Dublin 8 and I walk the girls to school every day and that seven o’clock to quarter past nine time is magic’.

“Now, you know, it’s also f***ing chaos and of course I’m looking at it now through rose-tinted glasses, us skipping through the park – whereas in fact it’s someone’s lost a shoe, someone’s killing someone else. But that was always my time with them.”

Kathryn previously told VIP Magazine that she was “over the moon” with her new role.

“I can’t quite believe it. It’s a big move for me with routine and getting up early. One of the biggest decisions was the family because I’m not going to be around in the mornings anymore. I’ll be finished at 10am and will be there in the afternoons, which actually will work nicely for us with the girls the age they are at now.”

Sharing the vibe of her show, she said: “It’s a new breakfast show, new studio and now with Ryan Tubridy there since last year they want to restructure the entire station. It will be a warm, welcoming, bright show, not high paced frenetic news, it’s me being me in the morning, like me talking to my mates. I’m just so looking forward to it.”
