Irish Gift Guides: The best candles to gift this Christmas

Here at VIP, we want to do everything we can to help support Irish business this year. It’s been a difficult time for many business owners so we will be shining a light on some of our favourites in a series of gift guides in the lead up to the festive season.

There are so many fabulous Irish companies to choose from, making it easy for you to shop Irish this Christmas.

One of the nicest gifts you can give is a beautiful candle, especially if you’re unsure what to buy someone!

Here are some of our favourite Irish brands, all of which we’d be happy to see under the tree this year.

Cloon Keen is a stunning home grown brand making luxury candles.  With scents including Antique Library and recognisable place names like Spanish Arch they make for a wonderful Irish gift.

The brand, owned by a Margaret Mangan and Julian Checkley, takes its name from the Gaelic ‘Cluain Caoin’, meaning ‘splendid meadow’.

Diamond Burgundy Christmas Candle; €21.00 

The Little Wax Company was founded in 2018 by Amy Herbert and all her stunning candles and wax melts are hand poured in her North County Dublin studio.

All the candles are made with cotton wicks and the wax is a blend of coconut oil and soy. They are also paraffin free, meaning they’re safe to incorporate into your home and lifestyle.

Every single product of The Little Wax Company are hand poured on-site by Amy’s team before being packaged and sent out to customers.

Max Benjamin is an Irish brand we all know and love, making them an ideal gift this Christmas with their huge selection of fragrances.

This year the brand launched a more sustainable option of candle refills which can be popped into your already used jar.

Dublin Dusk; €54.00 

Rathbornes has been around longer than you would think, with a history that stretches back to 1488, making it the oldest candle company in the world.

In the 1630’s Rathborne candles were used to light the streets, lighthouses and churches of Ireland.

Now they make beautiful luxury candles for your home and are available to buy online or in Brown Thomas.

Avery; €20.00 

Reyna candles was set up during the pandemic by Kildare based, Samantha Tabaldo.

Each are individually scented and coloured, and are made to order.

Ideal for the interior lover in your life, these are almost too beautiful to burn!

Clean Slate candles was founded by Nicole Connolly and are all handmade here in Ireland.

Ireland’s most loved wedding photographer, Jenny McCarthy has her own stunning candle.

The Wedding Candle would make a perfect gift for someone who is newly engaged or has perhaps had to postpone their wedding this year due to Covid-19.
