Another day, another Irish talent making waves in the world!

Dublin born Séan McGirr has just become the creative director of Alexander McQueen.

The Irish native will take over the role from previous director Sarah Burton, who has held the position for 13 years following the death of Lee Alexander McQueen in 2010.

In a statement with parent brand Kering, the CEO of Alexander McQueen welcomed Séan to the house, writing that they are “delighted to welcome Seán McGirr as Creative Director.

“With his experience, personality, and creative energy, he will bring a powerful creative language to Alexander McQueen while building on its unique heritage.”

The CEO of Kering echoed the sentiment, saying “Alexander McQueen is a House we are passionate about, and we are confident that Seán McGirr will be able to pursue its journey with a new creative impetus. We look forward to opening this new chapter in the history of this unique brand.”

Séan received his Master of Arts in Fashion in 2014 at Central Saint Martins in London, and has had an impressive career in the fashion world since.

He was previously the head of Ready-to-Wear at JW Anderson, and before that he was Women’s Designer for Dries Van Noten.

He also worked for some time in the creative offices of Uniqlo, in Tokyo and Paris.

Séan started his promising career by assisting at Burberry and Vogue Hommes Japan. Phew!

We can’t wait to see how Séan puts his own stamp on the brand.
