Fontaines D.C. will have a new scholarship for €12,000 launched in their name at BIMM Institute Dublin

Irish post-punk band, Fontaines D.C., are being honored by their former college, BIMM Institute Dublin, with a scholarship in their name for Commercial Modern Music.

The band will be actively involved in selecting the deserving recipient of the scholarship, who will have their BA in Commercial Modern Music course fees paid in full for the four-year duration of the degree course, worth €12,000.  

The project is obviously very close to their hearts, as it’s members graduated from BIMM Institute Dublin and credit their time there as a big part of the band’s success. As Fontaines D.C. member Conor Deegan, explained; “We’re honoured to have a scholarship in our name. Our time in BIMM gave us time to figure out who we wanted to be as a band. We were given guidance on how to achieve our dreams.

“We’re looking forward to being able to help someone else succeed at their time there with this scholarship.”

Since their days at BIMM Institute Dublin, the band has found worldwide recognition and toured the globe.

The group’s first album, Dogrel was released in 2019 and received critical acclaim, earning nominations for the Mercury Prize and the Choice Music Prize.

Their second album, A Hero’s Death, was released in 2020 and became even more successful. Earning a Grammy nomination. 

Right now the band’s third album Skinty Fia, is due for release on the 22nd of April and will be followed up with two summer shows at the Iveagh Gardens and an Irish tour later this year.

Applicants interested in applying for this scholarship must first apply to the BA (Hons) in Commercial Modern Music via the CAO.  The deadline for scholarship applications will be 1st July 2022.

Students on the four-year BA (Hons) in Commercial Modern Music receive expert guidance in their chosen field of Songwriting, Drums, Vocals or Guitar from highly skilled BIMM lecturers, all of whom have vast knowledge in the music industry and continue to be a part of it today.

The course also provides upcoming musicians with performance opportunities, masterclasses, individual tutorials and unrivalled networking and collaborative possibilities.
