Hundreds of people attending a special screening of hit movie Brooklyn this evening have been left disappointed as star Saoirse Ronan will no longer be there.
The premiere will take place in Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, where many of the scenes in the movie were filmed, and the hometown of Colm Toibin, who wrote the novel which the film is based on, and who will attend tonight.
But Saoirse, who was promised to be flying back into Ireland for the ‘homecoming’ screening of the flick, has ‘changed her schedule’ last minute, and will no longer be the guest of honour.
The red carpet affair is sold out with 300 guests expected to at the Riverside Park Hotel in Enniscorthy, but the Oscar-nominated actress has cancelled her appearance due to work commitments.
It is understood that organisors of the screening, which will see the hotel’s ballroom transformed into a state of the art cinema complex, received an email from the film’s production team and distributors Lionsgate UK yesterday evening.
It read that the Atonement star is currently in the US and her schedule had changed, meaning she would be unable to attend.
Just last week, Saoirse was in the country for the Dublin premiere of Brooklyn, a 1950’s tale of emigration, love and home. She also made an appearance on the Late Late Show on Friday night last, where she chatted to Ryan Tubridy about how much she has connected with her latest project.
