Eoghan McDermott revealed that his doctors were afraid he has suffered some sort of brain damage when he was the victim of an unprovoked attack in Dublin over the Christmas holidays. Speaking to the Joe Duffy radio show, Liveline, today, Eoghan spoke about how doctors were initially very concerned about lasting damage.
“I was at the hospital for 10 or 11 hours and I had a brain scan and thankfully it came back all clear… After the scan I started vomiting pretty violently and they said that was a tell-tail sign so I’d have to stay in for some observation, but I was ultimately released,” he revealed.
“I went home for a day, my vision started to go… I had a ringing in my ears and my head was absolutely pounding. My girlfriend is actually a doctor and she said “we should bring you back to hospital” so I went back and had another brain scan and took in fluids and painkillers and whatnot.”
While it has now been established that he only suffered a bad concussion, Eoghan is taking a break from his radio show following an attack over the Christmas period.
The broadcaster revealed his “head’s still getting shooting pains, ears ringing [and] vision blurry,” so he’s taking a week away from his show in order to recover. Blathnaid Treacy and Jay Hartigan are stepping in to take over while the RTE star is away.
We wish Eoghan a very speedy recovery.
