Elaine Crowley has revealed that her debs was one big let down after being dumped by her boyfriend, only two weeks before the event.
In an unexpected twist, the TV3 presenter was not broken up with but left dateless for a pinnacle event for young adults when about to graduate from secondary school, because of financial issues.
She explained: “[My boyfriend’s] excuse was he had to pay the car insurance and couldn’t afford to go to the debs.”
She added that his absence resulted in the night being “a bit of an anti-climax.”
Luckily, someone was able to step in just in the nick of time;
“I brought my sister’s boyfriend’s brother. He very kindly stood in”.
It would appear a girl’s dreams of a fairytale night had been dashed, yet although her Prince Charming had bailed, her handmade gown more than made up for it.
“It was floor length, bottle green velvet dress with a sweetheart neckline and long sleeves and I wore a pearl choker with it, which was all the range back then.”
“I actually think my debs dress was lovely”, she told RSVP magazine.
“I picked out the fabric and the pattern and my sister did design in college so she gave me advice as well.”
