It’s been revealed that the inspiration for Ed Sheeran’s next hit came from his Irish granny. The 25-year-old singer has roots in Co. Wexford, where his granny Anne still lives.

Ed has been busy in studio lately, writing and recording for his upcoming third album. A source told The Irish Daily Star that it will be comprised of 17 new songs, one of which was inspired by his granny.

“There are 17 songs on the album, but Ed is trying to whittle that down. He has a song about his Irish grandmother on it.

“The new album is in the final mix. He had hoped it would be released by Christmas, but it looks like it won’t be out until January,” the source said.

He's also involved in writing this year's X-Factor single.

The insider also announced that the Thinking Out Loud singer is involved in writing this year’s X-Factor winners single.

“Everything Ed does turns to gold. To have him write the winner’s song is huge and amazing news for this year’s winner. All the remaining contestants have heard the track and it works for the majority. They can’t believe potentially their first ever single will be written by Ed,” the source said.
