X Factor may not be set to return to our screens until next summer, but it turns out we might be seeing Dermot O’Leary back with his hosting duties much sooner than this.

The presenter is currently in talks with producers to host this year’s Brit Awards, after singer Michael Bublé was forced to step down from his hosting role in order to be with his son, who is battling cancer.

A source told The Sun that ITV are keen to hire the 43-year-old because he has the experience necessary for such a demanding gig.

“Dermot is exactly what ITV want to host the Brits, a safe pair of hands. He has that wealth of experience, especially with live tv.

“He has been at the helm of The X Factor for a decade and has a solid awards background too, thanks to the NTAs.

“(Dermot) is talking to producers but hasn’t made a decision yet,” the source said.

The Brit Awards take place on the 22nd of February, so we expect a decision will be reached soon.
